04-07-18 – Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is the largest natural and historical museum in the western United States. Its collections include nearly 35 million specimens and artifacts and cover 4.5 billion years of history.

Tattoo is an exhibition 5,000 years in the making. The art of marking skin with ink spans cultures, continents, and has evolved over time. We find ourselves with a mysterious fascination with both ancient and modern tattoo practices. Are they considered a part of sacred ritual or an act of rebellion? A sign of belonging or expression of individuality? In the special exhibit, you’ll explore the history, technique, motivation, and sheer artistic genius that are connected to one another by ink.

Wyoming is the 10th most extensive, but the least populous and the second least densely populated of the 50 United States. The western two thirds of the state is covered mostly with the mountain ranges and rangelands in the foothills of the Eastern Rocky Mountains, while the eastern third of the state is high elevation prairie known as the High Plains. Cheyenne is the capital and the most populous city of Wyoming with a population of nearly 60,000 people within its city proper.

A large lion tattoo by the talented Loko (Noel) at Slangin’ Ink Tattoo in Los Angeles. This tattoo was inspired by my family crest.

Dillon is a family name of Irish origin. It has frequently been used to anglicise Dilleen in Munster and Connacht, while in Leinster it derives from the Norman family name de Leon meaning either “of Lyon” or “of the lion”. It is sometimes taken to mean “loyal” or “faithful” by extension from the “of the lion” origin. It is particularly common in the Meath and Westmeath counties of Ireland. Viscount Dillon is also a title in the Peerage of Ireland. The Dillon Motto: Dum Spiro, Spero (While I breathe, I hope).
